A Cry In The Darkness

Who Will Cry For The Children?

An unwanted baby is torn
From the womb of a mother,
WHO WILL CRY FOR THE CHILDREN?

A frightened child runs home before the storm
Removing a key from around his neck,
He opens the front door.
All that comes to greet him
Is the silence of an empty house.
WHO WILL CRY FOR THE CHILDREN?

Mom and Dad don’t love each other anymore.
They are walking away
Leaving the child in the middle of fear.
WHO WILL CRY FOR THE CHILDREN?

Dad drinks too much
And says words that break a child’s heart.
WHO WILL CRY FOR THE CHILDREN?

A mother commits suicide
Children are left with a father
Who has no answers.
WHO WILL CRY FOR THE CHILDREN?

A child comes to school with bruises
On his arms and face
With fear in his eyes, he says, “I fell”
Hoping no one suspects the truth.
WHO WILL CRY FOR THE CHILDREN?

Mom says, “Go outside and play, I’m too busy,”
Dad says, “I’m too tired son to play.
WHO WILL CRY FOR THE CHILDREN?

For endless hours the television blares
Into these young minds
About sex, violence and murder.
WHO WILL CRY FOR THE CHILDREN?

Games are to entertain and enrich they say,
But children play computer games
Teaching them to win at any cost.
WHO WILL CRY FOR THE CHILDREN?

The pressures of today’s world to say ‘NO’ to drugs,
Don’t talk to strangers,
Confuse little children too innocent to understand why.
WHO WILL CRY FOR THE CHILDREN?

A teacher wonders why a child can not learn.
Is he hungry?
Has he been hugged today?
WHO WILL CRY FOR THE CHILDREN?

Without even a whisper of prayer
At school and at home for them.
WHO WILL CRY FOR THE CHILDREN?

“The Herod, when he saw that he was deceived by the wise men, was exceeding angry; and he sent forth and put to death all the male children who were in Bethlehem and in all its districts, from two years old and under, according to the time which he had determined from the wise men. Then was fulfilled what was spoken by Jeremiah the prophet, saying:
“A voice was heard in Ramah,
Lamentation, weeping and great mourning,
Rachel weeping for her children,
Refusing to be comforted,
Because they are no more.”
Matthew 2:16-18

(The spirit of Herod still prevails in our world today.)
